We will start on describing Sarulesti - Raduta, a lake being formed in early 80′s by unifying a few lakes that were situated along the valley of the Mostistea river, resulting in a vast 420Ha water lake that later became the empire of some new world carp records.

In his attempt to see live one of his proud dreams, the former dictator regime “buried” under water a few villages like: Ciofliceni and Pavliceni, and also parts of Sarulesti Gara, Preazna, Sandulita and Magureni. Here it should have been the Bucharest-Danube channel in the vision of Nicolae Ceausescu.

The project started in 1983 but was abandoned in 1989 because it was impossible to maintain a constant water level for the ships to be able to navigate. The lake bed has various forms of structures like sank houses, orchards, trees churches, cemeteries and schools, all these later became the playground for some very big carps and not only.

At the time the flooding process started people were already far away from their abandoned homes but what remained behind were some local fish farms, whose fishes, snail and mussel colonies practically created the perfect ecosystem for Cyprinus Carpio to grow massively.

Almost a decade later, in may 1998 the Austrian carp fisher Christian Baldemeyer caught the new world record here at Sarulesti with a mirror carp of 37,3 kg, and later in 2001 the British well known fisherman, Tim Paisley also caught here the biggest common carp at that moment weighting 34,5 kg.
